Where and when is this place in the Isle of Wight?
« on: Thursday 29 October 20 18:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

Not sure if I should put this here or the Hampshire board so please feel free to move It if that’s best.

My daughter, who worked on the IOW for a couple of years is back there on holiday and bought this great picture in a charity shop. She can’t place it and we’re not sure of it’s period although I’m guessing 1870s.

If anyone knows more we’d be glad to hear it,

Thanks,
Jo. Edited to add: it’s a big picture so slide it to see the rest of it

Hi Jo....It's not as early as you think, it looks more like Edwardian to me. Is it a postcard back?

It reminded me of Shanklin, it's many years since we were there but when I saw, I thought of The Chine. It's lit up at night if I'm remembering it right and you go for a walk along it. Of course I could be way off the mark  ::) ;D We need K. Garrad on the Job....I have just messaged him as he has good knowledge of the area....and he doesn't have to wear a mask 😷  ;D

Unfortunately, it could be any of the coastal areas on the IoW.  Not really any distinguishing features to go by.  Lots of the bays had steep steps as shown in this picture.  I lived there from 1971-1981 and they were the best of teenage years and my early 20's   :) Especially coming from a Lancashire industrial town.

hi Carol. No, it’s bigger than that, a framed print. My daughter said she’ll carefully try to open it when she gets home and see if there’s anything on the back.
Treetotal, I’ll get her to check Appleby and The Chine,

Many thanks all,

Jo
