I am thinking that Peter Murphy died 1927 is not yours.
I think he was the policeman who is in Carrick On Suir in 1901, age 38, married to Margaret and with a daughter Anne

Have you checked the newspapers?
I can see a snippet from  1908
Bridget Murphy , Abbey Street Cahir returned to trial for false pretences with claim from the War Office. It might mention Peter  :-\

Heywood strikes again!
It's in at least two newspapers, the Irish Independent, 4 May 1908, and the Wicklow News-Letter and County Advertiser, 9 May 1908
Putting the ocr texts together...
A woman named Bridget Murphy, of Abbeystreet, Cahir, has been returned for trial, and admitted to bail on a charge of having obtained £25 from the War Office by false pretences. Evidence was given that the accused had been married to an army reserve man, who died in South Africa during the war, and on a pension allowance being granted to herself and two children. She returned a life certificate regularly for one the children from 1901 to 1907, though the child had died, and she substituted the name of another for it.

Not sure if there is any more.
This lady grows more and more interesting!

Reg no is 1048

He is in UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929, on ancestry
Wm Lynch
Payments authorised to widow Bridget

Well done, heywood. It's sad about Mr. Lynch, but clears things up.

The records for Peter Murphy, Cahir seem to be re Sergeant Murphy and he is the Complainant.
I haven’t checked them all though.

There is one in 1900, where Peter Murphy, labourer of Cahir was disorderly whilst drunk in September 1900.

tks heywood I dont have newspaper access. All very intruiging regarding Bridget I am beginning to wonder given her antics was she a widow as stated in 1911 census. On her marriage to Peter Murphy he was a widower I did find a marriage in Limerick of a Peter Murphy whose wife died I must root out where I took note of the details he had 1 daughter with this wife and I recall finding his death also. I must study all the new posts regarding the courts would they be on family search
