Three Pigeons pub. Wisbech St Mary.
« on: Sunday 01 November 20 15:19 GMT (UK) »
Just wondering if anyone could help with the location of the Three Pigeons pub in Wisbech St Mary.

I have reason to believe an ancestor of mine may have been landlord there in the 1870/1880s.

Many thanks in anticipation for any offers of help and assistance.  ;)

Have you found your ancestor on the 1871 or 1881 census to establish his occupation & address at that time?

Thank you very much CaroleW for your reply. Unfortunately I haven`t had subscription to An*****y for quite some time and therefore I am unable to access records, sadly I never thought to save a copy to my hard drive either, I just attached their records to my tree at the time of research.

I did however make a note that mentions he was a Beerhouse Keeper on the 1971 Census in Wisbech St Mary.

Thank you very much arthurk for your reply and for taking the time to include the link. I have had the opportunity to check the link and print off a copy.  ;D

Many thanks again CaroleW and arthurk for your kind help and assistance.

Unfortunately I haven`t had subscription to An*****y for quite some time and therefore I am unable to access records....

Other sites are available - FindMyPast and The Genealogist are the main paid-for ones, but people sometimes mention finding census info (and images?) at FamilySearch, which is free. I haven't checked this as I use a paid-for site. You could also try FreeCEN, which is a transcription project, still in progress.

Don't forget too that since the first lockdown earlier this year many public libraries have been allowing members to access the library versions of Ancestry and/or FindMyPast from home, whereas in normal times they would have to use a computer in the library.

Thank you very much arthurk for your reply and the information you enclose.

I am familar with FreeCen but I had forgotten all about that website, so I appreciate the reminder. Thats the trouble with not carrying out family research on a regular basis. I let my subscription to An*****y lapse ages ago due to lack of fresh information and detail. I used to use the local library (which does have access to FindMyPast) when new details and information came to light.

Didn`t know libraries have been allowing members to access library versions of FindMyPast, I know what telephone number I will be calling tomorrow morning to find out though  ;) ;)

Many thanks again arthurk, your help and interest is much appreciated.
