Ann Taylor age 14, 12, Launceston Street, Halifax, 1871 census
« on: Sunday 01 November 20 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to trace the birth of Ann Taylor age 14, who was at 12, Launceston Street, in Halifax,  on the 1871 census, she was supposedly born in London in 1856/57.

My hope was to find her on the 1881 census, and also to find who's niece she was, either John Stocks or Ann Stocks nee Walker, who she was staying with.

I have checked the GRO birth index, but no joy so far.

So just wondering if anyone can help me at all.

Kind regards,

Snowyhog.

Have you looked for a female Stocks marriage to a Taylor?

If  she was Ann’s niece so you would be looking for a female Walker marriage to a Taylor

Have you found her in 1861?

Were either of those born in London?

It can help to trace these people back to see if any likely looking mothers pop up.

Thank you for all the replies.

I tried searching the GRO births, for Ann and Anne Taylor, no STOCKS or WALKERS were listed I am afraid, which slightly muddies the waters.

I also used FreeCen to move up and down the street in case there where any Taylors nearby, that could have been her parents, but no joy either.

I havent tried the 1861 census yet for Ann Taylor, I will try now, but also I dont know about Ann STOCKS , or where she was on the 1851 or 1841 census, her Father was William Walker, a Cloth Drawer/Finisher, this would show up brothers or sisters on the Walker side as well I guess.

She could belong to a married sister of either dad John or mum Ann.

I am using the familysearch website to check the 1861 census, no joy so far, but if the London birthplace is wrong it can throw other results off.

The GRO check listed maiden names of Mothers, and no STOCKS or WALKERS seem to show up, and I cant use FreeBMD to look for Ann's parents marriage as I dont know who they are, other than a STOCKS or a WALKER.

I saw one earlier but didn't post as birth wasn't London.

However just for elimination purposes it was Ann Eliza Taylor 1856 MMN Walker - think it was Yorkshire.
Will see if can find it again.

Thank you for that.

I had a look on FreeCen, and the is a Taylor family in Ecclesall Bierlow, on the 1861 census where the Mother and eldest daughter were born in London, and the youngest daughter could be the Ann in Halifax in 1871.

I will see if I can find out anymore information, to rule them in or out.
