Royal Navy Abbreviations
« on: Sunday 01 November 20 17:47 GMT (UK) »
My grandmother's second husband was in the Royal Navy in WW2. His occupation on their marriage certificate is shown as 'POLT/KX124698 Royal Navy' and on their son's birth certificate 6 months later as 'Seaman LTKX/124698 R.N.'. I'm guessing KX124698 is his Navy number, but I don't know what POLT and LT mean.
Any help would be appreciated.

LT = Lowestoft which would be his home port.
As it is under Rank or Profession, PO = Petty Officer.
