William and Mary (Peachy) Ricketts
« on: Monday 02 November 20 07:06 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the siblings of the above. The information I have, not proven with source records is as follows:
They were married on 12 May 1792 at St Giles, England
They had the following children all born in UK and died in Tasmania, Australia. (married name in brackets)
Mary (Littlechild) (1795-1842); Elizabeth (Bilton) (1796-1843); Sarah (Bilton) (1797-1879); Ann (Bilton) (1797-1883) & Thomas (1812-1860)
Has anyone who might be researching the family located the source records please.
There may be more children as there is also a record of a Miss Salome Ricketts emigrating but presumably returning to UK as there is no death/marriage for her in Tasmania. There is also quite a gap in birth dates between Ann & Thomas that I am a bit suspicious about.
I am pretty confident of death dates here in Tasmania, as I have access to the records. The birth dates I have assumed from the age given on  the death records.
I would very pleased if anyone can help with this as I have drawn blanks wherever I look.
Regards,
Tom

The only children I can find of William Ricketts and Mary so far are:

David John born 9 April bap 19 May 1793 St Mary Islington

Henry born 20 May 1797 bap St Mary Le Bone

William born 4 April 1800 St Mary le Bone

---------------
There is an Elizabeth of Thomas and Mary 1793 or William and Elizabeth 1796
Sarah 1797 of Robert and Frances

Mary Ann born circa 1795 in and out of the workhouse in Stepney 1829 onwards

Thomas born circa 1812 caught stealing- records are 1830 and 1832 sentenced to Newgate Prison for 3 months in 1833.

When are they supposed to have gone to Australia?

Mary is meant to have died in Hobart in 1838, so that gives one date.

There is a death for a Salome Ricketts in Holborn in 1872, age 68, but she could be a Salome married to a Ricketts, not yet checked out censuses.

Found her in1871, single, age looks like 60.

There are records for a Thomas Rickett convicted Essex 1837, sent out for 14 years 1838.

Daughters would be married, probably, by that date?  Did they all travel separately?

Added: newspaper report gives his age as 30.

Thanks for your response to my Ricketts query.
I will answer each reply.
chempat yes  have the records for the Thomas Rickett, convict and he is not the Thomas of interest, but he certainly muddies the waters as he travelled from VDL to Victoria a number of times and had a family here.
The girls were married when they arrived & I have given their spouses & dates below.
The Salome Ricketts who died in 1872 could be the one. As well as the definite Salome, a Miss Ricketts also travelled to & from VDL with family members who emigrated. What I am really after is a birth that will give her parents!
The Mary who died in Hobart 13 Dec 1838 was the mother of the girls. She arrived in VDL a few months before her death.
amondg the ones you mention don't seem to fit. I am pretty confident of the parents, Mary (Peachy) & William, married 1792 as suggested by rosie99 below.
Arrival dates in VDL were:
Ann m to Henry Bilton 1822.
Thomas arr 1832
Elizabeth m to George Bilton 1833
Mary(Peachy-mother) and Mary (Littlechild) 1838
Sarah m to John P Bilton 1840.
Thanks,
Tom
