Dating of Glasgow Family photograph
« on: Wednesday 04 November 20 16:28 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone could help with dating this photo.  Unfortunately, this is the condition of the photo in the album.  I know all my ancestors in this album were in Glasgow Scotland.  It appears as if the photography studio was in Old Cross Street, but I am not having any luck.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi

I would say that it's Edwardian - 1901 to 1910.

Lovely photo  :)

Hi Gadget

Thanks for that.  Can I ask what you are using as your basis for this date, it may help with some others I have.  I have been told that the column, curtain, and window were indicative of the 1860s in studios.

I'm with Gadget, Edwardian, the sleeves of her dress. Not as early as 1860s...it looks like it's a cabinet card.

In addition to the style of the woman's dress, which Carol referred to, the man's outfit is also of the same period.

As a comparison, these are examples of 1860s clothes and settings

A big difference, I see.  I was hoping the photo was around 1894/1895 as both sets of great grandparents married then.  Thanks

I do think it's more Edwardian than 1890s because sleeves in the mid 1890s are quite distinctive. Also, I have a photo of my grt grandmother's brother and his wife which is very similar (also Scots!). However, there is this
