According to this website, his regiment was:-

EFI, Expeditionary Forces Institutes

and according to his regimental number E313, he was the 313th to be enrolled in that regiment.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait for a military specialist to give you more informatin.

From https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/units/1792/naafi

"Male EFI personnel were members of the Royal Army Service Corps until 1965, then the Royal Army Ordnance Corps"

EFI = Expeditionary Force Institutes
Looks like they were part of NAFFI.

Story goes...one they all the POW were released and made to run for the hills while being shot at, Edmond survived and should have got some sort of medal but he never claimed it.

Did you look at the link I posted? It tells you all about them.

You can claim medals from WWII. I have just sent for some. You need to be next of kin, or have permission from the next of kin. There is no cost, but you will need his death certificate. If you don't have it, you'll have to buy a copy.

The RAMC man is almost certainly a coincidence of a (nearly the same) name.  Regiment and service number entirely different.

What is the source for the escaping story and when it is supposed to have happened?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Hi Max, Edmond was my step-grandfather. It was at the end of the war they let them run out over some well known mountains and they started shooting at them. He said he was an Interrupter but he read a message out incorrectly and that's why he was put in prison. He wasn't with the Germans? Maybe he was made to interpret  for the Germans. Its always been a mystery?

Everyone thought he'd been killed when he was prisioner and it was on his return to Egypt he found his wife had remarried. I think at that point he came to the UK?
