Can anyone identify this uniform?
« on: Thursday 05 November 20 10:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

This is my late father-in-law.
I have no idea whether it's a National Service uniform or a fully-fledged service one.
He was born in 1927 and he looks around 18 to early 20s.

There is some insignia on his left upper arm, so perhaps someone might be able to identify it?

Thanks in advance.

It is a WW2 or later Royal Air Force uniform the vital clue is the eagle badge at the top of the sleeve.  There is no way of knowing whether it is a National Serviceman or a regular.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thanks for that, Max.
That looks like the best that I'm going to manage then.

You/the family should be able to apply for his service record, check out:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records  - it does though take some time.  You don't need his service number as long as you can fulfil the other Ts and Cs and now you know it is the RAF form you fill in and submit.

Not aircrew and no rank on his arm, so rank is an Aircraftsman.

His civvies career was fitter/engineer, so he perhaps worked on plane engines?
