Sandra.
I rather think that the tree you found on Ancestry was mine.  "Earl Family"  Hylda was married to a Great Uncle of mine..  (the brother of my Grandmother Violet.)

I had three requests come through on Ancestry, and I have replied.  Hylda's granddaughter is aline and well and living in France, and iIhave been in touch

 Brigidmac,
We knew some, but not a huge amount.  Do you have any more?

Perhaps CWGC can give you a more detailed account on Hylda Maclean.

 Thanks Sandra,
I spoke to Mo from The War Graves commission this morning. at this stage they'd  prefer to talk to Hylda's granddaughter....
I addressed my last comment to BrigMac as I have had a conversation with her before.

CWGC do like to speak to quite near relatives.  Hopefully the grand-daughter will be able to find more information for you.

Mrs Hylda Fanny Margaret Maclean (1878-1918) mechanic / driver
Hylda was born in Coventry and married Norman Henry Maclean, an engineer, in
1900. The status of the father of both Hylda and Norman was entered as
'gentleman' on their marriage certificate. During the First World War Norman
received a temporary commission in the Royal Engineers. In 1914 Hylda and
Norman were living in Edinburgh with their three children. Hylda had volunteered
for the Women's Legion as a mechanic / driver. She was killed in a road traffic
accident whilst driving an ambulance in Edinburgh on 7 April 1918. Hylda is
interred at Edinburgh (Warriston) Cemetery. Thirty years later, in 1948, a legal
notice appeared in the Daily Telegraph (16 March 1948) by a firm of solicitors in
Kent, requesting the whereabouts of Hylda's three children.
