"Hettie"? who could she have been
« on: Thursday 05 November 20 17:36 GMT (UK) »
I've been trying to think of names other than "Hester" that "Hettie" could be a pet name for. Any suggestions, please?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Harriet?
I also knew an Esther ,pet name Hetty even though no H at  the  start of Esther.

Betty is a bit unusual in the diminution of Elisabeth but the  most common pet name for Elisabeth.
Way back in the 1800’s I have in my tree a Hepzibah - Biblical-pet name Heppy.
Think with pity on her brother —- Onesipherous!
I don’t know about a pet name but I bet he did not go out much ,not in Gold fields Australia in the 1860’s .
Bathurst and Sofala.Father,( my great grandmother’s brother )was a Methodist Preacher.
Viktoria.

I think it mustn't have been a pleasant name in her eyes, as she used a "Stage name" on Ann(e) as a singer. Thanks, somethings there to try.

Great aunt Henrietta was known as Hettie

Another relation was Martha Harriet ..the grandchildren called her Aunt Harittit. Because one couldnt pronounce it and the name stuck...

Also because their aunt Hettie lived close by it was a way to distinguish them .

Just to muddy the waters.....

My grandmother Lucy Elizabeth King was called Hetty by all the family. It was explained to me she got her nickname from Hetty King, a popular music hall star.

Which doesn't help you at all.... but shows there isn't always logic to these things  ;D
