Hello all, searching for the marriage of John Cross Somerset, he married a Elizabeth ? their daughter Ann Cross bap.16/7/1779 married a Robert Hockey in 12/12/1808 lic. Horsington, tried searching through the usual web pages and freereg.

One possibility...

John Cross, bachelor, of Wincanton, married Betty Parsons, spinster, 1765, Charlton Musgrove, as per Somerset Marriage Index.

Whilst the two places are adjacent, the baptism of the second Ann makes the marriage unlikely.

Morning Colc thanks for your reply, reading below does this mean that John Cross is married twice or different couples, need to find the marriage to Elizabeth, I will try again thanks for your help.

As the baptisms overlap, it is two couples.

The marriage posted by Jo, 8 Feb 1765 at Charlton Musgrove John Cross to Betty Barsons,
Banns were also read at Stoke Trister, John’s parish, Betty is noted as Elizth Parsons. Both signed.

Your John & Elizabeth were witnesses at their daughter Ann’s marriage, both signed and they did not match the above.

No trace of a marriage but they may have had a  Son George in 1773, he died same year, all of their daughters Elizabeth did not survive.

Hello ColC thanks for your help this family is more confusing that another ancestor I am searching for. I searched all yesterday for the marriage of John and Elizabeth on both of the Web pages. Perhaps Betty died and then he married Elizabeth or maybe not.

As stated by Colin, Betty Parsons and Elizabeth Parsons are the same person.

The key point here is that there were two John's, you may have missed my comment on the signatures.

Family search has a large number of possibilities ....

It might be a long job of checking as many original records as possible against the witness signatures at Ann’s marriage, you could likely rule out those that signed with a mark.

Have you checked for wills for family members? Any records showing John’s occupation? Do you have any information on siblings?

Sometimes it’s a long and slow slog, but the people on here are a great help.
