Going back to Harriet's children, 1851 census shows May (or Mary Letitia) aged 6, Edwin aged 8 and Arthur Lewis aged 1.  At this stage, we can only find a Edwin Lewis b. 1840 at Newbury - Vol 6 Page 225.   We have been unable to find any further information for Edwin Lewis or Harriett for that matter.
Wondering if you have any leads for us in this regard. Jan

Marriage, Lewis-Pyke
Dec 1844 Newbury 6 432a
Lewis, Richard
Pyke, Harriet

The marriage possibility jonw posted was for 1844 if that is your Harriet Lewis nee Pyke - Edwin would have been born before they married.

The birth ref posted for Edwin looking at GRO indexes gives no mother's maiden name.

I did look to see if I could find him on the 1861 census but hadn't found anything  ???

There is this entry on findagrave for an Edwin born 1840 England, occ. miller died 1896 Ohio USA, his wife Annie (Webb) born 1840 Hereford England but don't know whether it's the same Edwin

Thank you Ladyhawk for that information.   Strange no mother on the GRO Reference for Edwin Lewis.    This family certainly keeping us guessing !!
Maybe he did migrate to the States, you would think that we would have found him by 1861 census though in UK, unless of course he left at a very young age.

I do think it would have been nice to mention this thread when starting another one so soon.
Disgruntled.

Hi jonw65 I've added the link to this thread - on the other thread Matthew64 has added this information for RL

Quote
His convict indent gives family details
https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON14-1-43$init=CON14-1-43 images 183 and 184
removing the abbreviations it think it reads

Brothers - William, Thomas (? India 67 Regiment), Edwin, John.
Wife - Harriet. I have not lived with her for 4 years.
Father - James
Mother - Amy
Sisters - Letitia, Harriet, Elizabeth, Mary?, Lucy.

Interesting Richard has a brother named Edwin & sister named Letitia

Looks as if Edwin & Annie had a son George who married  Canada

George Lewis Age:   32
Marriage 13 Jul 1910 Essex, Ontario, Canada
Father:   Edwin Lewis, miller Mother:   Annie Webb
Spouse:   Frances Draves

George Edwin Lewis Birth 22 Sep 1877 Abergavenney
Residence Place:   Lorain, Ohio, USA
Military Draft Date:   1942
Relationship to Draftee:   Head

George Lewis is living in Ohio 1920 with wife & three children
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MD1Y-3DS
George was born in England immigration year 1896

This looks to be George with his family on 1881 census, his father Edwin born 1840 Wales

Piece:   5235 Folio:   11 Page Number:   15
Edwin Lewis   41 Llanigan, Breconshire, Wales occ cornmiller & grocer
Ann Lewis   41
Louise Lewis   9
George Edwin Lewis   4
William Webb Lewis   2

So I think you can rule him out as your Edwin Lewis from 1851 census born Newbury Berkshire

I am sorry Jon, was not aware this would be a problem, was looking for Australian researchers re the possibility of this being the same Richard Lewis.

Thank you, that solves that Edwin Lewis, not our man.  Regards Jan
