A "one armed" Rogers cousin
« on: Monday 09 November 20 07:40 GMT (UK) »
I realise that this is an awfully long shot. I have had a query from my cousin Brian regarding a visit to Midsomer Norton around 1942 of a cousin of his father Charles F Rogers. He can't remember this cousin's name but he recalls that he only had one arm and that he lived somewhere "up North"!

My Rogers relations were notorious travellers, seeking work away from North Somerset and some did in fact migrate northward.

My first thoughts with this query are with the family of Joseph Charles Rogers who moved to Hunslet C 1880  married Emma Hancock in Hunslet and had seven children, William and Lily b Pontefract, Stanley and Herbert b Stretford and Albert and Thomas and Annie b Altrincham

Charles Rogers b 1911 was the son of Edward George Rogers, and Joseph C was Edward's uncle.

Is there someone in RC who might have some info regarding our one armed cousin?

Any idea how old the cousin may have been in 1942 - would he be deceased by now?

I have no idea but my guess would be perhaps 50 years old. Brian's dad Charles would have been about 31.

Just to add the marriage to Emma Hancock was 14 Apr 1876 Hunslet.

1891 census also has a son Joseph 10 born Somerset.

It looks as though Joseph died 1900 aged 19. Registration district Bucklow, which included Altrincham.

So in essence we are looking for a nephew of Edward George as a possible cousin is that right?

When/where was EG born to look for his siblings.

EGR born 1882 at Clandown  son of Henry Gane Rogers and Anne Marie nee Shellard.
His siblings

Ada m William Elliot (Bideford) 2 d  Iris and Doris
Frank S  m Violet Mason  Midsomer Norton  Children local or Australia
Thomas  m Bessie Peake (Bristol) d Una b 1906
Charles G married and emigrated to Canada 1912 with 2 sons
William H  m Alice Guy  London  one son William E G b1902 London

None of the above fit the criteria of coming from "up North".

I still favour the children or g children of Joseph from Altrincham but.......who is the one with only one arm?
