Cyril Finch Keeley, West Sussex - need help please.
« on: Monday 09 November 20 22:27 GMT (UK) »
I am researching this gentleman and I know his father was John Robert Keeley (1869 Earlsfield, Surrey-1953 Edgeware, London) and his mother Emma Harriet Arlidge (1868 Stalisfield, London - 1901 Sutton, Surrey) Cyril was also born in Earlsfield, Surrey on 29 July 1894. He married Edith A M Winchester in Battle, Sussex in 1936. I see that he was a Merchant Seaman on 1911 census and was living in Worthing, West Sussex. I cannot find any more on this man. With a name distinct like Cyril Finch Keeley I did not expect too much of a problem. I cannot even find a death for him or any children. Unusual for me to be so stumped. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Griffiths and Mercer from Prescot, Lancashire. Maple from Wiston, West Sussex and Keeley from London.

There was another Cyril F Keeley (Cyril Frank) born early 1912 in Battle, and it is that one who seems to have married Edith Amy (M for Muriel) Winchester in 1936.

You should be able to spot them in Battle on the 1939 Register!

Emma Harriet Arlidge seems to have born in Spitalfields (not Stalisfield, which doesn’t exist) in 1868, and baptised at Christ Church, Spitalfields on 8 November 1868.

And a Cyril F Keely, a corporal in the RAMC, "makes application" 8.8.19, medal index card for him, not sure that he was awarded any :-\

His record in FindMyPast's "Britain, Merchant Seamen, 1918-1941" has his photograph (if it's the same Cyril Keeley) it says born London 29 July 1894.

He returned on the Laurentic in 1913. Age 20. Says intends to live in England (not always reliable though?)

if it's the same Cyril Keeley

That's the thing. He might well be the only Cyril Keeley of that sort of age about. No more on FreeBMD until 1909 (and no Keely)  :(
