Looking for information on Michael Pendergast, born abt 1833 in Ireland

I am looking for records for Michael Pendergast who was born about 1833 in Ireland. He married Maria Gilbert in 1861 in Breconshire, Wales, just a few weeks after the 1861 census, but I can't find him on that census in Britain.

There are some Michael Pendergasts living in Britain on the 1861 census but none of them seem like they could be the correct one. Surely though if he married in May 1861 he must have been resident in the parish for at least 3 weeks. Maria is living with her aunt on that census and is not with Michael.

I'd appreciate any help in finding Michael on the 1861 census and in turn any information as to his parents if possible.

Can you please list all the information on the marriage certificate please.

It should give age, occupation, residence, father's name and occupation, names of witnesses.....etc.....

A marriage usually happened in the bride's parish. Bridegroom could have lived anywhere.
Michael may have been living in lodgings and whoever wrote his name on census form mangled it.
Where are Michael and Maria on later censuses?

A census lists those people who were present in the dwelling at midnight on census night. It's not proof that that Maria was living with her aunt; she may have been visiting.
The nearest Michael P(r)endergast I can see on 1861 census was in Cardiff. A tailor aged 31 born Ireland + wife, Mary + stepson Cornelius.
Prendergast was the most common spelling on Griffiths' Valuation. Variants on other records included Prindergast, Pindergas + many more.

For example, he could easily have been on a ship. I see crew lists with a Michael Prendergast sailing between Ireland and Cardiff.

I haven't bought the marriage certificate yet so can't tell you what's on it at the moment. Think this might be the best thing to do.
