Boer War
« on: Wednesday 11 November 20 07:46 GMT (UK) »
I have a record for an A. Swaebe who received a medal dated 1 April 1901 entitled from the South African war.  His Regimental Number was 20305.  He was of the 2 Brabants Horse Reg.  Where could I find out more information on this man?  Maybe a date of birth would help and country of birth.  Many thanks.  I am researching an Abraham Adolph Swaebe (actually a Jewish name anglicized) who was born in Middlesex in 1873.  I wonder if this could be him.  Any help appreciated.

There is a tree on Ancestry which has Abraham living in Australia in 1888 and in New Zealand in 1900.  I don't have world membership so can't see the documentary evidence for this.

This Wiki articles does state that Brabant Horse did have members from a variety of countries.

This is possibly Abraham: Adolphus Swabe alias Walter Tremaine in jail in Australia in 1892:
