Have you found the marriage of those parents Eric?

Also -- I cannot understand the annotation under those 2 surnames.
I have reproduced it here for the benefit of others who may be able to decipher it and know what it means!

Hi Pennines

Been digging, (after a couple of drinks mind you), this has just come up on FindMyPast

28th July 1827

James Hill marries a Mary Webb at Watton.

So I think I now have Mary Maling, (nee Hill), parents and baptism  ;D.

Eric -- I love the way you say 'this has just come up on ....!

Sounds like it literally appeared all of a sudden -- by magic --- see what a couple of drinks can do.

Yes -- looks very promising. I still don't know what the mysterious inscription and the date on the baptism means though.

Morning

I have checked the GRO for that William Maling died 1855, (registered at Hertford). He was 49 years old.

LadyDi i think your post showing

"William Mayling born 19 Dec 1806, Bp 25 Jan 1807 son of William & Elizabeth Mayling
at Independ. Little Hadham"

is William Jnr

Regards

Eric

William Maling's death in 1855 might explain why he's not mentioned in the will of William Maling, Shoemaker, of Lt Hadham (PCC 1857)

EXCEPT

William Snr wrote his will in Oct 1851, Will Prov'd Sept 1857. He was bur Aug 1857 Lt Hadham age 73

Snr mentions his wife Elizabeth and his young children and he appears to have various land holdings which are shown on tithe maps.

No mention of grandchildren either
