« on: Wednesday 11 November 20 20:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have found a couple of ancestor's marriage certificate but am struggling to read it.

Its the top entry for Robert Jackson and Jeanie (Hutton?) The transcription is Hutton but i'm not sure

Thank you if anyone can help :) :)

Not sure this is any better!
Perhaps you could ask SP for a better image.
I know this has been done before here on Rootschat.

It certainly doesn't look just 'Hutton' - other letters in there.
'Houlton'?
Not totally convinced that first letter is an 'H' either.

Interestingly, that surname is written differently for Jeanie's mother Mary.
Her married name looks like 'Hulton', or even 'Huiton'. Now that does look like an 'H' at the beginning.
Presumably they should be the same name, as in the parents of Robert Jackson - 'John Jackson and Mary Jackson, maiden name Smith'.

Hutton, with a flourish on the 'H''?

I think you'll find it is indeed Hutton - her mother Mary's maiden name looks like Hewat.

Found Jeanie on 1871 census in Glasgow with a brother Robert and sister Mary (transcribed as Hulton) - 1881 census states Jeanie born Buchanan, Stirlingshire.

Robert Hutton married Mary Howet 12/5/1831 Kilmarnock, Dunbartonshire - children born Kilmarnock (you can get full dates on familysearch):

John 1833, Margaret 1835, Janet 1837 (died?), Janet 1839, George 1841, Mary 1843, Robert bc.1846 and then Jean (your Jeanie) 7/9/1848 Buchanan, Stirlingshire.

In 1851 Hutton family are at Buchanan, Stirlingshire with all the children mentioned above.  Robert senior shown bc.1797 Kilmarnock.

Robert Hutton, farmer, widower of Mary Howatt, died 28/4/1868 Hutchesontown, Glasgow aged 72 - parents shown as John Hutton, Horse Dealer, and Janet nee Paul.

Family in Kilmarnock in 1861 as Hutton.

Robert Hutton and Mary Hewit had a daughter Jean born or baptised in the parish of Buchanan, Stirlingshire, 7-9-1848 (Scotland's People index).

The 1851 census shows them at Auchmar, Buchanan, where Robert is described as a farmer of 700 (perhaps the number is a mis-transcription) acres (FreeCEN).

I have asked for lots of re-scans from scotlandspeople, they are very helpful.

One time, when I said what I was not clear about, they gave their opinion, but also sent a new scan just for my records.
