Mills/ Hall/ Neal/ Suffolk
« on: Thursday 12 November 20 19:19 GMT (UK) »
My 5 x great grandmother, Mary Mills born 1773, Kersley, Warwickshire married John Hall on 9th February 1796, Mancetter, Warwickshire. They had a daughter Sarah Hall born 1798, Bedworth, Warwickshire.
Jumping ahead to the 1851 census we can find Sarah married to John Ward living in the hamlet of Hartshill, near Mancetter, Warwickshire with their two children, Mary and Joseph, and mother in law Mary Suffolk , widow, aged 78 ( ie born 1773), Kersley. Going backwards from the 1851 census we can find a marriage of a Thomas Suffolk to a Mary Neal 27th March 1801, Bedworth, Warwickshire?
So I need to find a death for John Hall somewhere between 1796 and about 1800 and also to find a marriage of Mary Hall to  an unknown Mr Neal sometime before 1801 when she married Thomas Suffolk?
Any help would be much appreciated

All the burials of a John Hall appear to be infants?

Just to check, is this the family?

John Hall
Spouse   Mary Mills
Marriage   09/02/1796  Warwickshire , Mancetter both otp

Are you sure these are not the children baptised Mancetter to John & Mary

Sarah Hall 16 Apr 1797, John Hall 21 Feb 1798, Eliza Hall 6 Oct 1799

James Hall  8 Feb 1800, Mary Anne Hall 25 Feb 1801 Joseph Hall 7 Nov 1802

I guess as you noted this is their only child.

Sarah Hall
Mother   Mary Hall
Father   John Hall

Baptism   28/05/1797 (28 May 1797) Warwickshire England Bedworth, All Saints.

But still no burial for John or a marriage for Mary to Neal

When Mary married John Hall in 9 Feb 1796, she did not sign she made a mark.

This is the only marriage I can find, in the period, for a Mary to a Neal, Mary signed.
Thomas Neal    Marriage    13 Sep 1799   Bedworth   Mary Harrison

This is the marriage you refer to, this Mary signed and the signature of Mary seems to match the above.

Mary Neal   Marriage 27 May 1801   Bedworth, Warwickshire   Thomas Suffolk

Something is not right.

I'm sorry to complicate your search. Sadly the signatures do seem to be the key.

I think this might be Mary?

1841 - Heath Keresley, St Michael, Coventry

ALLEN   John   60   Taylor   WAR
SUFFOLK   Mary   65   Female Servant   WAR

Plus a couple of possible burials?

John Hall  - no age   Burial   14 Nov 1799   Mancetter St Peter

Also an Heelmaker, no age.
John HALL   Burial   06 Mar 1808   Warwickshire   Mancetter : St Peter

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.
