What was the age & marital status of the head of household? Was it a widowed woman about his age? Sorry to sound suspicious but he may have been living there free....

CatK66 I can't answer your question, obviously, but it seems like a possible explanation.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Josey, his wife is living at Stirling Street Denny.  She is the 'head' and I can't decipher what her profession is.  Shall I post a pic here?  I wondered why her husband wasn't on the census.  Maybe he had moved away for work.  He didn't die until 1908. I found a match for him at Bakers close off Broad Street Denny matching all his details.  I can't find another man with his details anywhere else in Scotland.

Ah, sorry Josey.  It looks like it's his daughter and her family.  I'll check.  Thank you so much.  Never thought to check that.  :D

Yes, he's boarding at his daughter's house with her family.  If he was stopping the night for social reasons wouldn't it read 'visitor'?

I would certainly interpret 'boarder' as indicating a long-term or permanent arrangement.
