Mentioned In Dispatches
« on: Saturday 14 November 20 11:16 GMT (UK) »
I have relative who was “Mentioned in Dispatches”.
Is there a way of seeing the original “Dispatch “ ?

Thanks for your reply Shaun.
I realise now that I should have posted WW2 with my query. Your link seems to be for WW1 only.

If its WW2 you can apply for the service records if you haven't already done so. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

For the MiD, search the Gazette https://www.thegazette.co.uk/  and local papers.

It is worth noting that not all Mentions were related to a despatch.  See the post war example of 23 May 1946 which has something over 10000 names of men and women whose names had been submitted up the chain of command as worthy of "mention"

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
