Where is John Cameron
« on: Sunday 15 November 20 18:08 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate my GG grandfather John CAMERON.  He was in Falkirk in the 1851 and 1861 census.  I haven't been able to find him since then.   What I do know or believe to be correct is he was born in Dunblane, Perthshire, 17 Jun 1815, he married  Margaret BAILLIE in Falkirk on 18 Dec 1840, and  his parents were Daniel CAMERON and Margaret McISAAC.    I would like to know his whereabouts in any later census and  the date of his death and where he is buried.  Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can't find a death for his wife and I can't find any of the family at all in the 1861 census - could they have emigrated?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I think Margaret also died Falkirk Landward 1872 but age is shown as 45 when she should be 53.

I can’t find another Margaret Cameron in Falkirk in 1871 that would match the 1872 death

Carole,

Not sure it's the same Margaret...

REID MARGARET 45
CAMERON (mms)

479/2 141 Falkirk Landward

Matching ref. to what you found for Margaret Cameron.

I don't use Ancestry.

Still in Falkirk in 1871 Ref ED Page 12 Line 20. Son Hugh should be 22 but is shown as 12 as is daughter Jean
Yes, got them now. FindMyPast transcribes Hugh's age (presumably correctly) as 22, and so does the SP index. I don't know why they didn't come up before. Though I did start by looking for Jemima, who has the least common name, and she isn't with her parents, brother and sister. It turns out that she is in Glasgow.

Also found the death of Margaret Baillie or Cameron, aged 78, in Falkirk in 1899 Ref 479/86.
