William Hakeney
« on: Sunday 15 November 20 18:23 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for anything I can find on William Hakeney, who died in Hull aged 93 in 1930.  He became an inmate of the Hull Charterhouse in 1907, and he's mention in a piece in the local paper about voting in the General Election of 1926.  Are there any details on censuses etc?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

It looks like he may have been baptised at Sutton on Hull on 30 October 1836. parents are Abel Hakeney, a Butcher and Elizabeth.

(If this is the correct person he has been transcribed on Find My Past as Hackney -- but the filmed record looks like Hackeney. The abode of the family was Sutton.

Is this the type of record you are seeking? Then onwards through census records?

I have just spotted a family tree on Ancestry which includes William Hakeney. It goes as far as the 1891 census -- includes parents Abel and Elizabeth and William's own wife, shown as Annie Ringrose along with their, or some of their children.

Hi Kloumann - how strange that the family tree on Family Search (well done on thinking of that - I never do think of Family Search trees) - and the one on Ancestry - both end with the 1891 census as far as I can see.

He is still around in 1901 as a widower and a Pork Butcher (his father had been a Butcher).

Shown as born Sutton, which confirms the baptism location. Age given as 55 (which is wrong!)- living at 52 Bean St, Kingston upon Hull.

Found his death on GRO but familysearch has it wrong. It has his birth as 1921 & death 1930.

In 1911 he is in Sculcoates Union Workhouse - Retired Pork Dealer, Shopkeeper aged 73. born Sutton on Hull. Shown as Hakenley on the actual census page.

I am looking on The Genealogist so I don't know how he has been transcribed elsewhere.

ADDED - in 1901 Ref is RG!3/4503/F?
