Hi all

I'm trying to find out more about my adopted mother's origin and story. (She's 91)

I have reason to believe that the family of Lt Col John Dryden Mather (Wife Caroline, Son Denis Ainslie , Daughter Patricia) are aboslutely integral to finding out the last piece of a long a complex tale that I can't really go into..

My question is; how on earth can I find out if they have any living decendants?

I know where they lived in the late 1920's and early 1930's and I think Denis Ainslie Mather had children.

But that's all.

I don't know where else to ask..so thought I'd try here!

Thanks all. Any help will be much appreciated.

There appears to be papers of administration 1946 after his death 1945 in a hospital for soldiers in Brighton
Widow Caroline McNeil mentioned and Nina Harris wife of Ronald Harris, (his daughter)
It looks as if he might have been abroad but I would suggest a 1939
There is a family tree online for this family

Louisa Maud

On marriage Caroline is shown as Carrie McNiell Easton 1900

It looks as if Denis died in 1955, poss wife Georgina Jane Mather, nee Lawton, marr 1949, you can check births from this marriage online, can't comment as they might still be alive

So far can't find anything about Patricia

Thanks Louisa!

Are you allowed to post a link to the Mather tree? I can't find it despite some fairly diligent googling.

I'e let my subscriptions lapse on the sites (they end up rather expensive!)

I think (IIRC) Denis Ainslie Mather married and had children.. while Particia didn't.

Patricia got herself into the newspapers with an 'incident' involving her pet dog and vacuum cleaner salesman (google Patricia Mather northover farm)...it's worth it  ;)

I think the Lt Col may have left the family to live in Canada during his latter years.

I suppose it ceases to be geneology and becomes more detective work...but any ideas how to find Denis Mather's children's names and birth certs?

I think only a Mather descendant would be able to help at all...at this point.

Thanks again

Hopefully it's OK to post a link?

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/75455164

The farm is near Steyning.

I can't be sure Denis Mather (and Georgina?) had children. It was a couple of years back that I thought I found a link (and subsequently lost it).

It's been a life long puzzle, this whole story...it's only with DNA matches that I think we've solved the mystery of my mother's natural parents.

The Mathers (if there are any?) hold the key to trying to explain a few things which would be important for my mother..

Thanks for your help!
