Where is Edward Hanley on 1861 census Scotland.
« on: Monday 16 November 20 15:50 GMT (UK) »
Edward Hanley died in 1862 in Denny, Stirlingshire of 'consumption 6mths'.  He is on the 1851 Scottish census with his family, aged 11.  He is not on the 1861 census.      Is it possible he was in a hospital?  Would he have been viewed as infectious and thus lived somewhere else?  Many thanks.  He was single when he died.

He may have left home by that age and been living/working elsewhere.

Have you found the rest of his family in 1861?  Was Denny his home territory.

Thanks Miliepede.  Yes, I thought that. I can't find him anywhere else.  All his family members are still in Denny.  Plus he died the following year in Denny. Interestingly, his father Thomas isnt on the 1861 census either.  He lived till 1868.  His mum Ann and other siblings are on the 1861 census. Ann is showing  as 'head'.  I can't find Thomas or Edward anywhere.  Bloomin mystery.  ::)

What were the occupations of both Edward & Thomas which may hold a clue?

Edit...Where were both born, can also be a big help in research?

He is on the 1851 Scottish census with his family, aged 11.

1851 indexed as Handley/Handly.  Note Edward is transcribed as 16 - not 11 and b Ireland - not Denny.  Age must be incorrect as he is shown as a scholar.  As Edward was 22 when he died it seems logical he was 11 in 1851

Thomas Handley 38 b Ireland agric labourer
Ann Handly    30 b Ireland
Edward      16 b Ireland
Thomas  10 b Ireland
Patrick  4 b Ireland
Mary  2      b Denny
Ann  3 Wks  b Denny
