will conundrum

2 wills same person 31 years apart & a large difference in the amount.
Does anyone know what's going on?

I can't see a difference in dates?  1951 on both unless I am missing something, what is the other date?

Somehow assets became known and available - maybe property?
The wills may help to clear things up.

Did a family member die in 1982 ? .... something happened then which made a new application to administer the 1951 estate necessary.

As it's administration rather than probate I assume there wasn't actually a will.
He was only an ordinary working chap so unlikely to own property.
I was thinking maybe he had some kind of savings bond that matured in 1982
but even that seems a bit far fetched.

I'd agree with AntonyMMM - and ask the question - when did Elizabeth Ann die?

Added:  And I wonder whether the £15,000 is a "less than" figure, which appears to be more prevalent in later wills.

With a name like Elizabeth Jones in Wales it's difficult to pin down a date of death.
I'll ask my friend as it's his family.

It's quite possible his widow never completed the administration of the will. For example transfer of title to a property. Then on her death someone else needed to wrap everything up.
My grandfather's administration was like this, new admon granted nearly 20 years later.

Sounds like that's what might have happened after all.
My friend seems to think she died in the 1970's so not much help.

Think I may have the answer.
They had an unmarried daughter who died in 1982.
She lived at her parents house so must be that.
