Hi

Looking at the map, HMS lived within walking distance of ( one of ) a current "chemical company ( GSK )
They had/have sites all over.
Obv now different but you never know.

A number of companies ran company bus services to get employees to/from work.

Why not contact GSK and see what they have?

UK - GSK House 980 Great West Road
Brentford Middlesex TW8 9GS United Kingdom Tel: +44 20 8047 5000

Ray,
many thanks for your continuing interest in the career of this man.  Any Ideas about his 1941-1952 time in RAF Intelligence and at Nurnberg War Crimes Trials?

Hertford to Ware is almost 20 miles - very temporary lodgings, as think car needed?

I understand that Hertford to Ware is less than 4 miles. Easy walking distance. My ancestors did it every Sunday to go to church.

Sorry, I meant Royston, not Ware, as that was where markheal had suggested it could be.

Google maps would suggest walking 4 miles takes about an hour, so would a superintendent walk for 2 hours everyday?  Bicycle, yes, on foot, more unlikely.

There was always the omnibus. Probably a good service between Hertford and Ware. Until about five years ago there was a direct bus service between Royston and Hertford as well.

Response from the Hertford Archivist....
"Kelly's Trade Directory for 1937 was checked and there were no Fertiliser manufacturers listed under Hertford "

"We do hold some records for a company that was based in Royston, the Farmers' Manure/Fertilizer Company, covering 1864 – 1973."
