Oh my goodness thank you!!  I found another site that indicated that he had maybe been in the civil war, but it wasn't conclusive.  This is so exciting, how can I find out more about it?  What sites are good to go to?

I wonder if Edwin may have been buried at Mass Graves Cold Harbour
Two burial trenches (ditches) containing the remains of 568 and 321 unknown Union soldiers are located at Cold Harbor National Cemetery............
