Did they emigrate? Looking for Francis and Catherine O'Connor.
« on: Wednesday 18 November 20 00:34 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find this couple in the US? There's no trace of them in Ireland after their marriage there in 1819 in Limerick - no children's baptisms, their deaths or census entries - so I wondered if they had emigrated to the US, as many Irish did at the time.

Francis was the son of William O'Connor of Cappanuke, Limerick, and Catherine the daughter of Patrick Kirby of Marlbrook, Limerick. I don't have baptism dates for them but going on the marriage date of 1819 would  guess that they were born in the 1790s.

The last record I have of Francis is in a Valuation Book where on 12 Feb 1842 he was farming at Dromsallagh Limerick.

Any leads gratefully accepted

They possibly did emigrate.

Here is a death record for Mary Crowley, 92 yrs, 1913, Chicago.
Her parents are Francis O’Conner and Catherine Kirby.

Wow, that's a promising find - thanks heywood! Catherine had a sister Mary, so it's definitely a family name.

1910 Census in the 14th Ward of Chicago has her living with her daughter Catherine Casey and family.  Says born in Ireland, immigrated 1850.

Marriage for Catherine Crowley to James Casey in 1885 gives mother's maiden name as O'Connell and father's first name as James.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GB25-33T?i=269&cc=1803970

Says she was born in Ireland in around 1861.  1880 Census her living in Ogle Township with her parents, James and Mary, so doesn't look like your family.

A belated thank you,  elainewilson, I didn't receive a notification for your reply. It's definitely her in the 1910 census, that's great. But a bit of a mystery about Catherine Crowley's marriage to James Casey - I need to see if there's another marriage that fits.
