Henry (Harry)Crumpton Wray. Looking for Birth registration
« on: Thursday 19 November 20 08:16 GMT (UK) »
I am struggling to find the birth/baptism of the above named.
At the time of marriage Henry Crumpton Wray in 1887 to Charlotte Potterton, he  was age 19 Fish Curer. King Edward Street. Great Grimsby, Caistor, Lincolnshire No father shown on the marriage

I have found him on the census records as follows:
1871 census age 3 (name shown as Harry Crumpton) with parents Joseph & Sarah (maiden name Hatfield)
1881 census age 13 (Surname shown as Crumpton) with parents Joseph & Sarah
1891 census address Albion Street, Great Grimsby age 23 Fish House Smoker (Surname shown as May)
1901 census address 5, Albion Street, Grimsby age  32 Fish Labourer (name shown as Harry Wray)
1911 census address 9 Percy Street Fleetwood age 42 Dock Labourer (surname shown as Harry Wray)
Burial record in Fleetwood shows name as Harry Crumpton Wray

Can anyone help please?

I have found the birth of both his older brothers(as per the 1871 census)

   WRAY, GEORGE       mmn HATFIELD
GRO Reference: 1864  M Quarter in CASTOR  Volume 07A  Page 621

   WRAY, JOSEPH  CROMPTON     mmn HATFIELD
GRO Reference: 1865  D Quarter in CAISTOR  Volume 07A  Page 553

Looks like Sarah (Hatfield) married Joseph Wray.

Marriages Sep 1861

HATFIELD    Sarah        Caistor    7a   846
Wray    Joseph        Caistor    7a   846

Thank you for looking for me  carol8353.

I do have those births details of Joseph and George. I wonder what happened to Henry(Harry). He is proving really difficult to find.

maybe not registered, but I wondered where unusual name Crumpton comes from? Anyone in the family with that name? Could have been adopted in.

I knew someone with this name who insisted on the pronunciation Crompton, so worth investigating
Crampton exists too.

The father Joseph? was also listed in the census records variously as Crumpton  and or Wray
