Pte Albert Briggs, York & Lancaster Regiment and then Lancashire Fusiliers
« on: Thursday 19 November 20 14:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I’m researching my Great Grandfather’s First World War service and would appreciate some help deciphering his records please.

It would appear he was a bit of a rascal when he joined up, I’m reading the record that he was AWOL on at least two occasions shortly after joining up and he was then transferred regiments. Could that be because of his tendency to disappear or was it rather just being subject to the whim of the Army and where men were required?

Can anyone read the final entry as to where he was sent? He was transferred from the York & Lancaster Regiment to the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Cheers

Matt

Exp (Expeditionary) Force Egypt.

If you look on the next page you will see that he was there until February 1917 and was then sent to France.

Great stuff, thanks Shaun.

Yes, the records then go on to talk about a self inflicted gunshot once he got to France  :(

Adding a little to Shaun's post - He was sent to 1/6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers who had left Gallipoli in Dec 1915 for Egypt and who more than likely need reinforcements at the time.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
