John Hope Langholm Dumfries

Hi is it possible to find ancestors of John Hope born 1645 Langholm Dumfries.
 He married Jean Talpher 18/06/1668 in his hometown. He died 1681 in Langholm. I have records of his descendants but am interested in finding his ancestors. Any help appreciated. Thank You.

Births begin 1668 and Banns 1609 but I doubt if they are complete.

So to answer your question, I would say it would be extremely challenging.

Did you make any further progress tracing the parents of John Hope (1645-1681) and/or his wife Jean Talpher (b1647)?  I am about to start on the same quest. I have my tree following the Hopes from this marriage through their son Walter (b1679) and his son Walter (b1712) and onwards through his son John (b1736) right through to today.  It would be fun to find if there was any link from John Hope (1645) through to the illustrious Hopes and Houblons of the 15th and 16th centuries.
It might also be worth us comparing notes because I've got a couple of things that are different from what you've got.  For example I've got Janet Irving in 1735 marrying Walter Hope (b 1712) the son of Walter (b1679).  I have a tenuous pointer to Walter (b1679)'s marriage being to a lady called Sibella Little.
