William Sutton alias

Hello,

William married Dorothy Orum in Upavon in 1647. The baptism of his daughter Ruth in 1663 says his alias is Gyll, and the burials for him and his wife says Guill and Guyll respectively. This is the first case for me of finding an ancestor with an alias. I’ve read a little but not had much luck finding a connection to the Guyll name, nor a baptism for him at all, or for his wife Dorothy.

I’d appreciate any help!

There's a baptism 9 Apr 1620 Netheravon that could be him.  Transcribed as Sullen instead of Sutton.

Father William also.

And a Mary daughter of William baptised 11 Mar 1619.  Also under Sullen.

There is also a burial at Netheravon, Wiltshire, 4 Apr 1630

Thanks for all of that! The taxation lists are certainly very interesting. Pushes a good way further back than I’ve got with parish records.
