Ok John age 4 in 1841 Census with Jane/Brown may be the Son of NANNY Hodgson and Bapt 28 Feb 1836 Stanhope, Mother single

But cant find a Bapt for Nanny to a John/Jane.

Even looked for Nancy.

So many Hodgsons so little time :)

Appears to be the other Jane 1841 in Staindrop;
Jane Hodgson 50 Independant?, NOT born in County
Elizabeth Hodgson 20 born in County
Mary Hodgson   15 born in County

JenB does the 1847 Marriage have a occp for Father John?

JenB not online Trish so I looked

Occupation of Groom's father was miner but, playing devil's advocate, there were oodles of miners in that area :-) Bride's father was a shoemaker.

and, as info for Kenneal67, if you are not in a rush for this and want the record Durham Record Office would provide a copy from the Parish Register for £5 via their Quick Search facility  - but you may have a very long wait as the archives are still closed so heaven only knows when you'd get it. Worth bearing in mind though for when / if ever we get back to something approaching normality.
Just now its wait and spend less or pay for the GRO official version :-(

Not sure if this will help, bear in mind that St John's Chapel was a chapelry of Stanhope, so still part of the parish

John Hodgson and Jane Stout
Marriage 1807  Stanhope Parish Church
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XBQ-73N?i

Baptisms St John’s Chapel  all have abode as Green Pit Head
24 Jul 1808 William  1st son John Hodgson and Jane Stout
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XBQ-WR4?i

19 Jun 1810 Mary  1st daughter John Hodgson and Jane Stout
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XBQ-WKD?i

24 Feb 1811 Margaret   2nd daughter  John Hodgson and Jane Stout
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XBQ-7G8?i

25 Jul 1813 Brown (but the Barrington years have finished so the good genealogical info has gone)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6LD3-8HS?i

So going on the abode I’d say the above were all one family with Parents John and Jane (nee Stout)

There was another miner called John Hodgson in the area who married Jane Gibson in 1810

09 Sep 1811 Sarah 1st daughter John Hodgson and Jane Gibson  abode Grain
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6XBQ-HCR?i

25 Dec 1813 Mally - abode Six Days Work (post Barrington so no good stuff)

Tickettyboo, your information from the England Durham Diocese transcripts are difficult to read.  Is there a searchable translation available?  You showed me a Mally Hodgson, that is a gggg aunt of mine.  Thank you for a piece of my ancestry puzzle

For full transcripts, I usually try either Durham Records Online ( free to search, but  pay per view, or a yearly sub to see the full transcript for an entry). This link shows what they have in the database.
https://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/Parish_Record_Info.php

or Free Reg, as it says in the title that is free, and like the above site the full entry is transcribed.
You can look to see what coverage they have here for each county:
https://www.freereg.org.uk/freereg_contents/new?locale=en

Family Search may have an index entry for the parishes you are interested in but they only include barebones info, often just the names of the parties concerned.

As far as I am aware there isn't any one site that will have transcribed all years for all parishes in the Diocese.

Do bear in mind though that, as you say, old documents are sometimes difficult to read. As such helpful though transcriptions are its always a good idea to view the original document if possible to be sure the transcription is correct.

I did a fair bit of transcribing for Northumberland FreeReg, mostly from the BTs I do understand that faded, scribbled pages with old fashioned writing can be challenging, but stick with it and they do become easier to read once you get used to them :-)

If you need help with deciphering what you see on the BTs , post a query with a link to the image and someone will help you to decipher what you are stuck with.

hmm I've just looked at the image for the Mally that is in your tree.
Yep its dire :-)

If its a clearer scan from the original Parish Register you would like then Durham Record Office ( the archives) hold those registers. They do a Quick Search Service and for a fee of £5, payable online, they will email you a copy of the page from their microfilm
http://www.durhamrecordoffice.org.uk/article/18496/Apply-for-Quick-Search

As you now know the date, check their Church Records database and you will be able to give them the reference so they can go straight to the relevant film/ register.

As it says there, if the microfilm copy isn't as good as it might be (they vary) you can, for an additional fee, have them scan from the actual register and enhance the image - again payable online and emailed to you.

Thank you Boo….. you have really helped me.  I’ve been dabbling with my family history for almost 30 years…. But it’s caught hold of me in the past 2or 3 years
