Hello everyone, hope you are all well.
I am nearing the end of tying up my family tree. I have two recent finds that I cannot seem to be able to tie down. However, I will keep the posts separate as it may get confusing.
The 1st person I am trying to find is Emily Hillyer (b abt. 1871 in Combe Down, Bath, Somerset). The only example I can find of her existing is on the 1871 census.
James Hillyer, Aged 66. Mary Ann Hillyer, Aged 52. Elizabeth Hillyer, Aged 31. David Hillyer, Age 21. Emily Hillyer, Aged 20. Emily Hillyer, Age 2/12.
In the 1871 census she is listed as being James Hillyer’s (b 1805) granddaughter.
I believe she was likely the daughter of Emily Hillyer (b 1851 – d 1875) due to the name being the same and her being listed immediately below her in the census but cannot be sure. The family are from a very concentrated area in the village of Combe Down, called Greendown Place so this is likely the village where she was born. It is possible/likely the child was born out of wedlock.
I have had a look at census for her aunts and uncles but no luck.
Please note the surname is commonly transcribed incorrectly as Helyar, Hillier, Hilyer, Hellier etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
