Question about lady in uniform WW2
« on: Monday 23 November 20 15:56 GMT (UK) »
The attached photo shows a lady during WW2. Its all I have, sadly the original is not available so I can't post close ups of the badges.

I have searched on the web and come to some tentative conclusions, but have no real knowledge about uniforms so am hoping someone can confirm/deny the following:

1 I 'think' she was in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS)
2 There is one stripe on her sleeve, ? Lance Corporal?
3 I am wondering about the braid (on left as you look at the pic), is this just a part of the uniform or does it signify rank or a specific branch?

Thanks

Boo

1 I 'think' she was in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) - yes

2 There is one stripe on her sleeve, ? Lance Corporal? - yes

3 I am wondering about the braid (on left as you look at the pic), is this just a part of the uniform or does it signify rank or a specific branch? - part of the uniform (lanyard)

plus Royal Artillery's Anti-Aircraft Command grenade above left breast pocket and cloth divisional insignia on tunic sleeve just below the shoulder

This site gives a good explanation:

Lance Corporal would be a Lance Bombardier in an Anti-Aircraft Battery.
