Peter Brown 1800/1803-1883 Newton/Winwick

A Peter Brown is my 3 x great grandfather. I have for many years (like many others) been trying to find evidence of his birth - thought to be Newton or Winwick in Lancashire - and also the name of my 4 x great grandfather.

Trees on various websites show 19 Feb 1800 or 19 Feb 1803 as his date of birth but without sourcing the date.  The years of birth come from censuses and his death certificate.

The trees also show his father as Peter Brown, his mother as Ann Ball, with siblings Edward Ball, Charles Brown, James Brown, Mary Brown and John Brown. 

Ann Brown (widow of Peter) died in 1840 - Edward Ball was "in attendance".

The dates of birth (dd/mm/yy) of all siblings are shown.  However only the births of Edward, Charles and John can be/have been sourced (each showing parents Peter and Ann).   I can find no record of the births of Peter (1800 or 1803), James (1806) or Mary (1807).

Can anyone help source these births?

If it helps, Peter married Mary Ann Stanley in Daresbury in 1823 - but the transcript provides no additional information.

It's best to start with what you know and work backwards - particularly with a surname like Brown.  Do your own research - many trees are not researched thoroughly

Which child are you descended from?  When & where was that child born?  If it was a female - who did she marry & when & where

I agree completely about many trees and the way to research.  I have been researching Peter for a number of years - on and off since my own research hit a brick wall at the marriage of Peter Brown to Mary Ann Stanley in 1823.  The only on-line evidence of where and when Peter was born is from the 1841 - 1881 censuses.  These consistently show that he was born (and lived) in Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. The '41, '51 and '61 censuses suggest he was born in 1803, the '71 and '81 censuses suggest 1800.  His death certificate also suggests 1800.  As I could not find any parish records for the birth of a Peter Brown in the years 1799 - 1803 and with no pre-1823 facts I looked at family trees which show the information contained in my previous post.

Yes, but other children are Peter 1824, George 1831-1832, Methusalah 1839, George 1844, James 1847.  I have the birth certificates for Methusalah and George (my 2 x great grandfather) confirming Mary Ann Stanley as mother.

I guessed there must have been more but the records on Ancestry are a bit hit & miss.

Regards Peter, if you are able to look at the parish records on Ancestry, there appears to be a problem with Newton Le Willows, for a start they think it is in Yorkshire, but if you search for Brown, say Wigan, that will bring up some parish records, there are only about six and the are not contained in the main Lancashire parishes,  change the parish to Newton Le Willows, the records stop at 1812, it seems to be the only way to get there, it might be worth a look?

Date not quite right, but there is a baptism at St. Thomas, Ashton (not far from Newton)in October, 1797, for a Peter Brown (twin of Mary), base son of a Mary Brown. I think that might mean illegitimate.

This Peter was born on 26 October 1797 but only survived 3 days.
