Agnes Craig
« on: Wednesday 25 November 20 11:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks, I could do with a bit of help with a dead end...
Trying to find the parents and some better dates of Agnes Craig.
She was born abt 1806 in Edinburgh, married Walter Peacock 15/04/1826, had a daughter Eliza abt 1836 and died abt 1838. There is another daughter I’ve come across, same year, but this time Mary. Not sure how much if this is just clutter and muddle, but I’m really struggling to get any further with Agnes. Heeellppp!!

Eliza, 6, born Midlothian
Mary, 3, born Midlothian
Agnes, 2, born Midlothian

This is probably her in 1861:

At Grosvenor Place, Walcot, Somerset, working for Sewell Hamilton, clergyman without cure:

Agnes Peacock, servant, unmarried, 22, cook, born Scotland

Well, this is kind of where I got to. It looks like poor Agnes has died and the children and a lodger remain with the father Walter. Good that this lists Mary, and I’m guessing the two year old has been given her mother’s name. Maybe a death in childbirth perhaps?

Yes I think that’s them, looks like Walter has moved on to wife number 2, and has a fresh child from the new union, and an older one from the previous still resident with him. Excellent information, thankyou!

The 1826 marriage(or Banns) seems to be listed in Haddington and North Berwick , if Walter Peacock was born Haddington would this indicate Agnes Craig was North Berwick ?

Re the 1861 census, it says Agnes is "22", that tallies with the age in 1851 ("12") and in 1841 ("2").

That's Walter's daughter.
