I hoped Matthew would solve a mystery about his nephew, my g.grandfather Alf (Richard Alfred Lee). After the family Milling business failed in 1895, Alf took on the Bay Horse at Killerby. He was also a dealer in flour. However, this did not go well and on October 19th 1899 he was at the bankruptcy court in Stockton. He was obviously the worse for drink and was told to return for another hearing. However, on November 16th 1899 he arrived in the USA at Ellis Island. He seems to have been back in England by 1906 and in the 1911 is recorded as working as a stockman. I have often wondered what he actually did when in the USA and discovering that Matthew went there I thought that Alf might have gone to join him. However, from the information you discovered it seems that both Matthew and Jesse had been dead for some years by then, so not a solution after all! Mag
