Seeking Parents' details
« on: Friday 27 November 20 03:57 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find correct parents for William COLE, B.1828 SPENCER'S WOOD, READING, BERKSHIRE.
who later moved to Fulham, London.
Names I have are: William Cole b.c.1802, Swallowfield, Berkshire (near Reading), wife Sarah Cole b.c.1804, Wycombe, Bucks. Seems correct as he is licensed victualler, son William is Brewer's Assistant, who married Eliza Leigh Lovibond, in Camberwell (father Brewer, Henry Lovibond)..... ultimately became Lovibond's Brewery.

Thanks Rosie and Trish for your quick replies. Yes, thanks, that is the correct marriage certificate for William (Jnr). However, I am also trying to confirm if William and Sarah, as given, are the correct parents and if anyone can find any further details on these parents. So many William Coles in that area!! (Only the father William's name is shown on marriage certificate.)

A side note. I have answered as requested for my friend wenaus who is just a 'newbie' at this - the original post was issued by me on her behalf yesterday.

Where have you found any members of the family in 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses?

I can see William c 1828 on all Census from 1861 (1861 down as born c 1833 Spencerwood, Berkshire)

Unable to find him 1841/1851
Also William Snr in 1861 in Camberwell born 1802 Swallowfield.
1871 he is born c 1801 Hampshire
With them is Grand/Daug Anne Hester (as Annie GRO mmn Freeman)

1851 Census
12 Chapel St
Lambeth, Surrey
Wm Cole, 48, Head, Mar, Brewers Servant, born Hampshire
Sarah Cole, 46, Wife, born Buckinghamshire
James Jerome, 19, Nephew, Brewers Servant, born Wiltshire
Martha Freeman, 10, Neice, born Lambeth, Surrey

Still working on this but cant find William or William/Sarah in 1841 Census.

Trying to work out family relationships.
James Hester married Martha Freeman 1861 (image on Anc)

From what I can see Martha Freeman was reg 1840 mmn East
Richard Freeman married Martha East 15 June 1834, Swanscombe, Kent

This one is doing my head in!

Found the same family as Trish but not finding anything to tie up with your William
Pity there is no baptism record for William Cole born 1828

Did see this family on the 1841 census Lambeth Surrey (piece 1055 folio 32 )
William Cole age 35 ( brewers servant?)
William Cole age 13
Charles Cole age 11
John Cole age 9
Sarah Tarram age 65
George Riching age 20
Ann Thomas age 15
Phoeby Elsey age 25

But hard to say if this is his family  :(

I think that the 1841 family you have is correct Rosie but that William senior is possibly widowed

Marriage at St Mary's Lambeth 16 October 1842 of William Cole -Widower -occ Brewers servant - father---Cole (decd)
Sarah Alfrey - spinster - father Thomas Alfrey decd
