I think that the 1841 family you have is correct Rosie but that William senior is possibly widowed

Marriage at St Mary's Lambeth 16 October 1842 of William Cole -Widower -occ Brewers servant - father---Cole (decd)
Sarah Alfrey - spinster - father Thomas Alfrey decd

Looks good Rosie  ;)

So grateful for everyone's work and trouble.  Many thanks.
My friend (wenaus) is still having trouble as a beginner in accessing her page, so once again I am answering for her. I have done quite a bit of research in different directions for her previously, and we had thought Sarah could be the mother but it is looking more like it could be Elizabeth.
Most of the family seems to have moved down to London to live, at various times, ending up in Camberwell, Fulham, etc. areas - and also this is where Lovibond's Brewery was eventually established.

Re possible father: I did find a William COLE baptised 16 Mar.1790 St.Lawrence, Reading, Berks.(and HIS parents were William Cole & Elizabeth Cole).

Re possible father: I did find a William COLE baptised 16 Mar.1790 St.Lawrence, Reading, Berks.(and HIS parents were William Cole & Elizabeth Cole).

The William (Snr) that we are looking for would have been born in the early 1800's.  1841 has him as '35' and 1851 as 48.  Unfortunately on the 1842 marriage it does not give a first name for his father and he can't seem to make up his mind whether he was born in Hampshire or Berkshire.

If it is him in Acton in 1871 with wife Sarah then he gives his place of birth as Tadley.  The lack of a fathers name on his marriage may suggest he was illegitimate.  This baptism would fit but would need to be followed through to establish what happened to him

William Cole
Mother Sarah Cole
Christening 10 Sep 1803
Tadley, Hampshire

Thanks for your great research.  I do have the 1851 census but not the 1841. Any further records you find would be great; meanwhile I will keep digging.
