MaecW, you ask if I meant that he was in the Turkish Air Force. The answer to that is a qualified 'yes' - I have photographs of him wearing what I presume to be a Turkish Air Force uniform which has the date October 1943 and 'Torquay' (the darker uniform in the photos attached) but there is also a photo which appears to be around the same time without uniform. The second photo, in the lighter uniform, is dated 1949. So my answer is 'qualified' as of course I don't know if he was in uniform in Torquay or Paignton. What I do know is that he lived in Bandirma, in Turkey.

The quote from Gen. Gurak is interesting barryd - I think I've found the article you referred to (Worldbulletin.net ?) which confirmed that 300 Turkish lieutenants went to Britain in 1941 to get training
