Mr Justice Coltham
« on: Saturday 28 November 20 14:35 GMT (UK) »
I would like to find out who this man was, as it is an unusual name based in East Kent and at that time almost entirely agricultural workers. I have found press references to him from 1838 and 1848 under that title, so no first name, but nothing in the 1851 census.

Several articles have possibly the same person as Coltman

Could this be relevant

That could well be him. I wondered if there was confusion over the name. I will do some checking, but it looks as if he was not, in fact, a strangely important member of my family!
 Thank you.

It is a shame if he is not a relation.  I see what you mean about the surname in Kent, there are not many anywhere else are there unlike my Marsh's  ;D
