Thanks so much to everyone for the help yesterday. I had only been hoping to find out where Margaret Stephens was from as without the 1851 i didn’t have her on a census at all. I never expected you to find both sets of parents and siblings. A tree on ancestry has a photo of Theodosia’s death certificate and i will look into the possibility - from that tree - of her maiden name being David. Thanks again.

well, there is a birth record from Henllan Amgoed Independent for Theodosia David born 8 March 1784
at Llanboidy. The previous year, there's a Theodosia Philipps born 22 June 1783 also at Llanboidy.

Haven't spotted a marriage for either couple as yet.

Hi osprey, i found that baptism, but then a marriage of a Theodosia David to someone else (can’t remember who and only on my phone at the moment).

Edited: the one i found was in Pembrokeshire so probably not her.

Although the baptism fits with her age at death, the first child i’ve found was born in 1814, making her around 30 at the time. And 49 when the youngest Sophia was born. Guess strange spellings don’t help with first and / or surnames. But i’m thrilled to have Theodosia 😀

Re names, one of their daughters (Mary) married a William Esau (or Esan, or Evan). GRO has several children as Esan. One of the children was Esau, variously transcribed as Esau Esau or Esan Esan 🙄

Esau seems more likely. There's a small newspaper item about a William Esau being charged with setting a snare/poaching on Mr Vivian's lands in Margam parish in 1857

I agree, and most of the images look more like Esau. Found 2 of the children’s burials at Michaelston-super-Avan, both transcribed as Esan, and here it’s clearly Evan as his first name but with Esau / Esan as his surname.
