Help please. Is it likely that  someone baptised Evan would also use  the name John on other records or  do people stick to the baptised name . I  believe that John is the anglicised version, but I’m am confused as to how to search if both versions are used. Any advice on this would be really appreciated

My father was an Evan. As far as I know he only ever used that name. It was a family name. Each generation of that line has an Evan.

John is an anglicised version but I've not found it used for someone baptised or registered as Evan.

He might not have liked it or maybe changed it for another reason.

Just to add that he was occasionally called Ianto, which I think was a form or John or Ieuan.  He had a younger brother named John.

His name was Evan Williams born in 1825 in Llanrwst, possibly but definitely around that area. His name on his sons marriage certificate was Evan so I think on that basis I might disregard “Johns”

There are two baptisms in Llanrwst around that time for an Evan Williams:

12 Oct 1823  to Evan and Jane

22 Jan 1826 to Owen and Anne

Do you know when he married and to whom?

A possible marriage is 1847 to a Catherine Jones. I have sent for  a birth certificate of  my great grandfather so that I can verify his parents then hopefully I can move on
