Sunninghay, Oxford?
« on: Monday 30 November 20 08:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi, In my search for "William Forster", I came across the attached newspaper cutting. However, when I put Sunninghay, Oxford into the search on Ancestry as a place an ancestor may have lived it is not recognised? I then tried to find this place on Google maps but with no success. Has anyone any ideas of where this may be?
Many thanks.

Oxford Journal 22 November 1788

Sunninghay is near Twyford and about three miles from Reading, five from Henley and eleven from Maidenhead

ADDED I see that since I posted this you have added the newspaper copy stating the same

Thanks Rosie99, but does it still exist today & why does Ancestry not recognise it?

if you look on map.  Find Reading. Follow the A4 east bound.  you come to SONNING Golf Club and SONNING, and then it isn't far to Twyford

added - there is also Sonning Eye to the west of Sonning

Thanks all, sounds like it may be Sonning Eye? Name change over the years? Either way, Ancestry will not recognise it! From reading the clipping there was clearly a Forster family living there, how to find them?  ???

Ancestry is based in America, it is unreliable with English place names and often has major places listed in the wrong areas /counties so it is not unusual for it not to recognise a small 'hamlet'
