Looking for John Browne death in Drumboory
« on: Tuesday 01 December 20 09:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My ancestors wife Isabella Browne nee McMahon died 5 Jan 1883 in Drumboory, Fermanagh. Isabella was 94 when she died and her daughters husband was the informant. That makes Isabellas birth around 1789

Until recently I thought her husband John Browne died 2 May 1864 in Whitehill, County Fermanagh. However I purchased the death certificate today and that names his wife as Rosan Brown.

The 1862/64 Griffiths Valuation has John Brown in Drumboory. John may have died before official registration

Can anyone find his death?

There are two townlands in Fermanagh with the name Drumboory.
https://www.townlands.ie/fermanagh/magheraboy/devenish/ely/drumboory/
https://www.townlands.ie/fermanagh/knockninny/kinawley/crum/drumboory/

The John Browne from Whitehill was from the parish of Devenish.

Your John Browne was from the parish of Kinawley. That would be in the civil registration district of Linaskea. He was alive in 1862 as you mentioned. Luckily, PRONI added the valuation revision books, so you can see what happened to the property after Griffith's valuation.

I checked the 1864 revision and the landowner is the Earl of Erne. John Browne's name is crossed off, which implicates that he passed away as Isabella still resided there. That would mean that you had the right assumption that he passed away between 1862-1864.

Hi Patrick_a

Thank you for that. I hadn't seen them before and its prior to official death registration or on the cusp. I searched irishgenealogy.ie for 1862-1865 but no luck except a 3 year old in 1865 in Linaskea.

Ill need to look into what burial records there are for Linaskea prior to official registration. I had a brief look at the igp website but no records fitting him

Could he have been somewhere else visiting family when he died? Thats a possibility.

Hi Rathmore

I have a copy of her death but have been unable to find where she is buried. I suspect she's buried with her husband. Her daughter's husband did well for himself. I'd expect a burial.

I checked that website for his death and burial but nothing.
