Amlooking for info on Thomas Gunter in Enborne
His wife was Ann and they had a few children
A few years agowe went to Enborne but couldnt find
Anyone who knew of any family by the Gunter name
 I know my Granfather Sidney was born there

Sydney was b 1887.

You should have been able to find them on censuses pre 1911

Given that Sydney was b 1887 - did he live & die in Berkshire?  Did his sons live & die in Enborne?  If not - then current residents are unlikely to remember them.  Any female children who married will not have the Gunter surname

I’ve never used Ancestry.

Did you roam the cemetery, looking for headstones?

As Carole has said, if the generation above didn’t remain in the area, then it’s highly likely that those living there in more recent years won’t recall the surname.

What research had you already done to establish when they all married & died?  The Gunter males from the census entries will have been long dead by the time you visited as would their children.

Did you use freebmd to check for the marriages found by Jamjar & for descendants from those marriages?  www.freebmd.org.uk

You need to work forwards from the info given above to find anybody with the Gunter surname who links back to Thomas & Ann

The 1939 register (access by subscription only) has 20 males with the surname Gunter living in Berkshire

Sydney Gunter is in trees on Ancestry.  Perhaps you should take out a trial to try and make contact with people who do know of them.
