There is a tree on ancestry which has Edmund S Edwards Depot. D.Light Infantry Regimental Number 44144, born c1897  Sunderland Durham with parents Robert Edwards and Ada Unsworth.  Do you have parents, spouse for your man?

ancestry.com have this transcription from World War I Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 Unfortunately the original image is only available on their site on Fold3 which they charge extra for on top of the normal subs! At least we now know his middle name which may help in the search. The transcription does tell us his mother is Mrs. Edwards from Aberfan South Wales
